Jerusalem day 1

 I walked from Jerusalem central station to the hostel to dropped my bag, and then immediately ran to Jetta Gate of the old city to take 2-hr free walking tour. It was so hot under the sun, yet the highlights were rewarding, such as incredible rooftop views and narrow twisted streets.













We visited all four of the Old City’s quarters – Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Armenian, then saw world-famous sites like David’s Citadel, the Hurva (ruined) Synagogue, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Dome of the Rock, the Mount of Olives and the Western Wall for a view point. 











When I got back to the hostel, there were tasty free food (vegetarian beef, salad, and rice) in the kitchen. After making some new friends in the kitchen, I went back to check the Machane Yehuda marketplace full of fresh, local produce and desserts that is always in season. I then stopped by the hostel rooftop of the hostel but had no energy to socialize with the hostel mates. What a day!

Bagamoyo

 Day 6 - Bagamoyo We headed out 5:30 am this morning as we journeyed south to our overnight stop in the coastal town of Bagamoyo. Formerly a centre point of the East African slave trade, Bagamoyo lies just north of the port of Dar es Salaam and is a perfect launching point for our upcoming Zanzibar Excursion. While today is primarily a travel day, we traveled via many small towns and mountains. Road travel in Africa is an experience in itself and the bustling markets, villages and scenic backdrops that line the routes give a window into the lifestyle of rural Africa. When our truck passed via the town, I got a glimpse of entrance portals of the homes which display intricate carvings with Arabic influence. View the aging German buildings. Church of the Holy Sepulchre

 After taking a nap and eating an early dinner, I decided to walk back to the old city to check out Church of the Holy Sepulchre which is not as busy after 6 pm. It is the most holy Christian spot in the world. Its history began in the fourth century, when the Bishop of the Christian community of Jerusalem discovered a tomb that has since become almost universally accepted as the burial place of Christ. I was still in a queue for an hour or more to enter the tiny tomb chamber.  Today, it is shared by several Christian denominations, including the Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Armenian Apostolic churches.
