Tiberias. Israel











 

I toke two buses to get from Nazareth to Tiberias located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee/Lake Kinneret in the north of Israel. The view of the lake from the hills is fascinatingly blue. “Tiberias is one of the Jewish Four Holy Cities, along with Jerusalem, Hebron, and Safed. It is a pleasant lakefront resort, and also a good base for visiting the Galilee and Golan.” I ran into two young backpackers on the bus planning to transfer buses from Tiberias to Golan highlands. 


However, it was hotter than other Israeli cities I have visited. I took a nap in the hostel and got out after 5 pm to walk around town and along the lake shore, as well as dip my feet into the lake.

Bagamoyo

 Day 6 - Bagamoyo We headed out 5:30 am this morning as we journeyed south to our overnight stop in the coastal town of Bagamoyo. Formerly a centre point of the East African slave trade, Bagamoyo lies just north of the port of Dar es Salaam and is a perfect launching point for our upcoming Zanzibar Excursion. While today is primarily a travel day, we traveled via many small towns and mountains. Road travel in Africa is an experience in itself and the bustling markets, villages and scenic backdrops that line the routes give a window into the lifestyle of rural Africa. When our truck passed via the town, I got a glimpse of entrance portals of the homes which display intricate carvings with Arabic influence. View the aging German buildings. Church of the Holy Sepulchre

 After taking a nap and eating an early dinner, I decided to walk back to the old city to check out Church of the Holy Sepulchre which is not as busy after 6 pm. It is the most holy Christian spot in the world. Its history began in the fourth century, when the Bishop of the Christian community of Jerusalem discovered a tomb that has since become almost universally accepted as the burial place of Christ. I was still in a queue for an hour or more to enter the tiny tomb chamber.  Today, it is shared by several Christian denominations, including the Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Armenian Apostolic churches.
