Day trip to Limassol, Cyprus
I canceled and rebooked flights into Nairobi, since America Airlines delayed my flights would missed my 3-day tour. That caused a late start of my 1.5-hr bus to Limassol, the second largest city (after the capital, Nicosia) of Cyprus. Limassol has become the principal sea port and quite touristy. A lot of existing and ongoing real estate developments near the shore.
I checked out two churches, took a stroll on the seafront known as "Molos promenade", Old Port, Limassol Marina, Limassol Castle, Anexartisias street (a popular shopping area), Akti Olympion (3-km beach-side walking park area stretching from Municipal Gardens to the Old Port, with sculptures), etc. Rather than taking buses to Kourion, Amathus, and other ruins, l visited the Limassol District Archaeological Museum that traces the history and development of civilisation on Cyprus from prehistory up to the end of the Roman era and exhibits the collections in town. The overcast weather didn’t help with photo colors yet made it cooler for walking.
I bought 3-day worth of groceries from the supermarket and fixed myself an Indian spicy instant noodles meal cooked with veggies and egg, paired with a cheese bread stick, an apple and joice. Later in the evening, we had a farewell party for Christina to finish her 6-month study of environmental engineering and back to Germany tomorrow. I tried Cyprus Grilled Halloumi cheese. Halloumi is an unripened, brined cheese that is made with a mixture of goat’s milk and sheep’s milk. This type of cheese is pretty tough, and it has a high melting point. It is crispy on the outside and a little creamier on the inside, and deliciously salty.
