Serengeti National Park II

Day 4 – Serengeti National Park

This morning we rose to see sunrise, enjoyed a hearty breakfast, and left the luscious camp in the farewell singing/dancing by the staffs.

We continued our game driving through Serengeti National Park. Famous for the abundant wildlife that exists in the park, we spent most of our day in search of the animals that reside here, including just mated lion and his partner. “Mating in lions is a very intense affair. A pair will mate every 20 minutes for 4 days and nights with each about lasting one minute. Lions have a low fertility rate and a very small percentage of mating results in conceptions. In fact, for every cub reaching one year old, the parents would have mated 3000 times.”

Serengeti is almost 10 times the size of Masai Mara.  Both offer fantastic African safari experiences, beautiful landscapes, a sense of space, and abundant wildlife. Generally a good time to visit either park is in the driest months from about June to October (with opposite seasons to northern Hemisphere). Tanzania safari are more expensive than your Kenya safari.

We got back in Karatu in the late afternoon and enjoyed an African dinner including bbq goat, African salad, soup, garlic bread, vegetables, and mixed fruit bowl. I am really concerned about overeating and almost no exercise during the tour.
